King Cotton Holiday Classic Day 3 Notebook

Day 3 of the 2023 King Cotton Holiday Classic is underway at the Pine Bluff Convention Center and ArkansasVarsity.com is on hand to bring you updates from the final day of action.

GAME ONE: MCDONOUGH, GA 64, WHITE HALL 38

White Hall trailed McDonough by two at halftime, 27-25, but McDonough outscored the Bulldogs 37-13 in the second half to pull away for the win. McDonough finished 1-2 in the tournament while White Hall fell to 0-3 in the tournament.

Keenan Gray led McDonough with 22 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 blocked shot. Nigel Thomas contributed with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and a steal. Nathade Fambro helped with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots.

Jai’Chaun Hayes led White Hall with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. Jacoby Edwards contributed with 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal while Jordan Rasberry finished with 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.

GAME TWO: SANDY CREEK, GA 58, PINSON VALLEY, AL 50

Sandy Creek used a 6-0 run in the final 26 seconds of the game to pull away from Pinson Valley in the second game of the day at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

Sandy Creek was led by Amari Brown with 22 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals while Amari Latimer added 11 points, 1 rebound, and 1 steal.

Pinson Valley was led by Austen Coner with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists while Clyde Walters added 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

GAME THREE: DUNCANVILLE, TX 90, SILSBEE, TX 85

Duncanville pulled away in the second half to win the battle between Texas teams 90-85 after trailing Silsbee 33-32 at halftime.

Duncanville was led by Kayden Edwards with 41 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists while Cameron Smith added 19 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and one blocked shot.

Silsbee was led by Jared Harris with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 blocked shot, and 1 steal. Lam Bottley, Jr added 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

GAME FOUR: ARCHBISHOP WOOD 89, BENTON 82 – DOUBLE OT

Archbishop Wood and Benton battled it out all game long before Wood pulled away late in double overtime to defeat Benton 89-82 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

Archbishop Wood was led by Josh Reed with 38 points, 13 rebounds, 1 assist, and 6 steals. Jalil Bethea added 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

Benton was led by Terrion Burgess with 33 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists,  and 1 steal. Harris Pickett added 18 points, 10 points, 5 assists, and 1 steal.

GAME FIVE: BOOKER T WASHINGTON 80, LITTLE ROCK CHRISTIAN 79 – OT

Little Rock Christian missed a shot just before the buzzer as they fell to Booker T Washington in the second game of the day that went into overtime. Both teams battled strong with Booker T Washington coming away with the win.

Booker T was led by Chris McDermott with 26 points, 20 rebounds, 5 assists, and one block, followed by Sam Johnson with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and one block. Odis Carter Jr. added 18 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists, and 1 blocked shot.

Little Rock Christian was led by JJ Andrews with 33 points, 19 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, and 4 blocked shots, while Corliss Williamson, Jr. finished with 12 points, followed by Jameel Wesley with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 steal.

GAME SIX: ST JOSEPH 57, LITTLE ROCK CENTRAL 36

St Joseph took the lead in this game early in the first period and never looked back, defeating Little Rock Central 57-36.

St Joseph was led by Toun Yessoufou with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Julius Price finished with 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Little Rock Central was led by Luke Moore with 10 points and 5 rebounds, while Annor Boateng finished with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 blocked shot.

GAME SEVEN – KING COTTON CHAMPIONSHIP – GONZAGA 76, WESTMINSTER 72

GAME EIGHT: PINE BLUFF 64,  ST. FRANCES ACADEMY 57

The Pine Bluff Zebras bounced back from a Thursday loss to King Cotton Holiday Classic Champion Gonzaga with a 64-57 victory over St. Frances Academy in the final game of the tournament.

Deriyon Graydon led the Zebras with 17 points, 3 assists, and 2 blocked shots and 7 rebounds, followed by Randy Emerson Jr. with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Courtney Crutchfield added 14 points, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Cameren Fleming led St. Frances with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, and one steal, while Donovan Flamer added 15 points and 3 rebounds.
